Application of Alkylation in Industry

Jul. 03, 2017

In the oil refining industry, the alkylation process is mainly used to produce high-octane gasoline blending components. For example, isobutane is alkylated with propylene or butene to give an alkylated oil, which is the earliest application of the alkylation process. Benzene is alkylated with propylene to produce cumene, which is also used as a blending agent for gasoline and is the main raw material for the production of phenol and acetone. Now the alkylation process is mainly used to generate a variety of important organic products.

For example: benzene with ethylene for alkylation of ethylbenzene, benzene with C10 ~ C18 olefins for alkylation production of synthetic detergent raw materials of high carbon alkyl benzene. In addition, toluene with propylene for alkylation of methylated cumene, after oxidation and isomerization can produce m-cresol; toluene and ethylene reaction can produce vinyl toluene. 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene is alkylated with methanol or methyl chloride to produce 1,2,4,5-tetramethylbenzene.

Our company can offer phenol alkylation technology.
